Northern Ambition Academies Trust is a ‘company limited by guarantee’
Unlike a normal limited company, we don’t have shareholders. Instead we have members who act as guarantors for the company – they undertake to contribute a nominal amount in the event the company has to be wound up.
We’re a charitable company, so any surplus at the end of the year is reinvested into the Trust’s schools – our members don’t receive any financial returns. But like shareholders, the members are there to hold the directors of the company to account and have the power to appoint and remove directors. The powers of the members are set out in our Articles of Association and expanded on in our Governance Handbook.
